The Bermuda Triangle (also known as the Devil's Triangle or the Triangle of Death) is an imaginary area located off the southeastern Atlantic coast of the US. The apexes of this imaginary triangle are; Miami, San Juan and Bermuda.
Why does such mystery surround these waters? Well, rumor has it, it all started back with Christopher Columbas who is reported to have seen a bolt of fire fall into the sea and experience compass irregularies within the triangle.
Between 1492 and 2001 over 170 ships, boats and planes are said to have disappeared. The most famous include:
1872 - the discovery of the “Ghost Ship” the Marie Celeste.
1918- The USS Cyclops with a crew of 309 vanished without trace causing the largest ever loss of life in the history of the US navy
1945 - Flight 19. On 5th December,a full squadron of TBM Avengers, took off from Fort Lauderdale and never returned
1963 – The collision and loss of two US Airforce KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft
1964 -The loss of SS Marine Sulphur Queen with 39 crew.
1955 - The Connemara IV, a luxury yacht found adrift
Theories include; magnetic disturbances, giant combustible gas bubbles, time travel, the lost continent of Atlantis, mysterious ancient sea bed crystals, Strange rock formations (The Bimini Road), Aliens, freak ferocious storms, Rogue waves and Piracy.
In 1978 the film “The Bermuda Triangle”, a thriller featuring backwards spinning compasses, was released drawing peoples' attention to these mysterious waters and people have been fascinated by The Bermuda Triangle ever since.
