Dive Site Overview for East Timor
East Timor is a hidden gem offering many unexplored diving sites. The diving is world class with beautiful deep wall dives, unspoilt reefs and a wide variety of marine life. There are many opportunities for divers and snorkelers to see whales and dolfins as well as turtles, mantas and other colourful species.
Lospalos and Com on the eastern coast of East Timor offer some spectacular wall diving. These water was rarely visited, even by local fisherman, and offer some amazing, unspoilt reef and marine life including Dugong (a species similar to a manatee and legally protected in many areas as a species being close to extinction), manta rays and sharks.
Diving around the capital city of Dili are some great dive sites and training sites and the amazing bubble fields! The sharp-eyed can find leaf scorpion fish and ghost pipe fish.
Atauro island (about 45mins from Dili) is abundant in marine life, including sharks and turtles and generally has good visibility.
The best time of the year for diving is February to June and September to December.
