Diving Overview for Indonesia

Indonesia is made up of over 17,000 islands and some 55,000 km of coastline. The most established destination is Bali which attracts many tourists looking for relaxation and luxury as well as those looking for great surf and amazing diving! Most Indonesian live aboard dive trips start from Bali.

One of Asia's most famous wreck dives, the U.S. Liberty (torpedoed during WW2) sits in fairly shallow water off the Bali coast line, you can even see it snorkeling. This wreck, over 40 years old, is 120m long and is fantastic condition alive with marine life, there really are fish everywhere, and what's furthermore, you can access this site from the shore.

There are an abundance of beautiful dive sites around Bali and the Lombok straits. You can see plenty of turtles, sharks, Manta rays and seasonally the Mola Mola (sun fish).

Outside of Bali, Manado Bay, a marine reserve on the other side of Indonesia, is home to some of the world's most amazing diving. There is fantastic reefs and wall diving here to satisfy ever diver. For Manta rays, the Kalimantan coast (the Indonesian part of Borneo) is famous and Komodo national park (often visited by live aboards) offers beautiful diving and is the home of Komodo Dragons.

For divers who like to explore, Raja Empat and the very east of Indonesia are little known and divers are only now beginning to explore this previously untouched area.

Diving in Indonesia is beautiful, it truly caters for all tastes and abilities. Most dives are drift dives and reefs, however some sites are subject to tide and currents and you will need a permit to enter marine reserves.
