Diving Overview for Sri Lanka
The beautiful island of Sri Lanka has hundreds of dive sites from reefs to rock and caves and plenty of famous ship wrecks dating back to the colonial era.
The West of Sri Lanka has the largest reef spanning 3 nautical miles and fabulous reef diving. Pigeon island is considered Sri Lanka's top spot with its turquoise waters and abundant fish and corals.
Kalpitiya is popular destination for divers and non-divers with many dolfin watching opportunities, sometimes you can see huge dolfin pods of 200-300!
Some of the wrecks lie in deep water (below 50m) but there are some more shallower and more accessible wrecks. The HMS Hermes is a fantastic wreckage from WWII sitting at 53m but definitely one for wreck enthusiasts!
From November - April the West cost is considered better for diving, and from April to November, the East coast.
