Dive Site Overview for Thailand
Thailand is a popular choice for divers and there are many dive centre and resorts offering trips and courses and liveaboard options.
To the west of Thailand is the Andaman Sea, and to the east is the Gulf of Thailand, both offer excellent diving although the west is considered to be the most spectacular, particularly around the Similan Islands.
Thailand is surrounded by coral reefs and offshore pinnacles with plenty of sheltered bays for beginners and more adventurous drop-offs and wrecks for more experienced divers. The marine life is excellent, the waters are clear and warm and provide perfect all year round diving.
There are plenty of leopard sharks, reef sharks, manta rays, turtles, beautiful tropical fish and even whale sharks passing through these waters.
The Similans are thought of as the top destination in Thailand with distinctive and dramatic underwater terrain, thriving reefs, corals, tropical fish and large pelagics including whale sharks -don't forget your cameras!
The best time to visit Thailand is during the dry season from October to April, especially during late March-April, the hottest period, when the plankton blooms attract a vast array of marine life into the area.
The beautiful clear waters average around 28 degrees so usually a 3mm suit is sufficient.
