More Information
Heron Island is a coral atoll forming part of the Great Barrier Reef system in the Coral Sea, Queensland.
Heron Island is surrounded by rich coral gardens, tropical marine life and crystal clear waters. The lush marine life and beautiful corals around Heron Island are so spectacular that the Heron Island-Wistari Reef system was the first ever coral region to be decalred a National Marine Park in Australia in 1974.
Pams Point is a coral wall just off the point of Heron Island that acts as a popular feeding ground for manta rays. The gentle current carries plankton that attracts the mantas and this is the best place on Heron Island to see them glide past, usually with their mouths open!
Look out for the resident Queensland blue grouper and larger pelagic fish including reef sharks and turtles (turtles are especially common during breeding season in summer) that are also attracted to Pams Point.
This is one of Heron Island's most amazing dives -not to be missed!
