More Information
This is an ex US Buoy tender vessel that was used to service navigational buoys. She was deliberately sunk in about 25m off the south shore of Bermuda near Horseshoe Bay beach.
The vessel was about 80m in length and lies upright. All spaces are easily accessible and just about everything has been left intact, just the doors off. The ship had a heavy mast to support a cargo derrick used to lift buoys out with their moorings and lay them on the foredeck for servicing. The mast is heavily stayed and these stays are still in place and give the wreck a characteristic look.
Below it is possible to penetrate all the accommodation and the engine room where the main engine is still intact. Coral is gradually encrusting the controls but most things can still be identified. On the upper deck the bridge is partially collapsed but the starboard gyro compass repeater bowl is still there as is the wheelhouse toilet.
Altogether this is one of the best wreck dives in Bermuda. The nearby reef is good and the wreck is of a good size and in a comfortable depth for all qualified divers. Open water divers can still stay within 18m at the main deck and accommodation with plenty to see there.
More qualified divers can access all parts of the wreck.
