Diving Overview for Bonaire Island
The pristine reefs and diverse marine life around Bonaire are actively protected making it one of the top diving destinations in the Caribbean.
Bonaire is surrounded by reef which forms the National Marine Park (from the surface to 60m depth). As a result there is a vast amount of activity and beautiful corals formations all around the island.
Under the National Marine Park Rules, all divers who haven't dived Bonaire in the last 12 months MUST attend a diver orientation, briefing and check-out dive before being allowed to dive here, you must also perchase a Marine Park Tag (around US$25) which is valid for one year. This might seem a little overboard but it does ensure all divers have good buoyancy and equipment to prevent reef damage and preserve the ecosystem.
Bonaire's best diving is on the West coast, the island has very little rainfall making the waters here exceptionally clear and perfect for diving all year round. Water temperatures range from 25-29°C and visibility can exceed 50m -perfect conditions for underwater photography.
