Diving Overview for Turks and Caicos
The Turks and Caicos Islands are two hidden gems in the Caribbean surrounded by extensive coral reefs, tropical sunshine and pristine beaches.
The 40 different islands and cays are separated by the 22 mile-wide Columbus Passage. The Turks (to the East) and the Caicos islands (to the West) are teeming with eagle rays, mantas, turtles and dolfins. There are several shipwrecks to explore including the HSM Endymion, a British ship that sank in 1790, as well as hundreds of secluded bays with white sand beaches that are perfect for relaxing and excellent for snorkeling.
These beautiful turquoise waters offer exceptional wall diving and colourful reefs overloaded with marine life. During February and March you can dive with the migrating humpback whales in Salt Cay and meet the many dolfins including Jo-Jo the resident dolfin around Providenciales (‘Provo’) which is the most developed island.
These waters are a treat for all shark lovers! Caribbean reef sharks are common in here especially around the North West Point, West Caicos and even Grace Bay. Other sharks include hammerheads, blacktips and tiger sharks.
Water temperatures range from 24 to 29°C, diving is possible all year round with excellent visibility, however rainy season is from May – November with September to October being the most active hurricane period.
