Diving Overview for US Virgin Islands
The US Virgin Islands are made up of 3 main islands; St. Thomas, St John and St. Croix that attract more divers than anywhere else in the eastern Caribbean and are often visited by cruise ships.
The beautiful islands have clear turquoise bays and spectacular white-sand beaches stretching for miles of coastline.
St Thomas is home to the majority of wreck dives within the US Virgin Islands and tends to be busier than the outer islands of St John and St Croix. There are several wrecks worth exploring, colourful reefs and pinnacles. Night diving is a popular option where you can see spiny lobsters, eels, octopus and stingrays hunting in the dark as the bioluminescence and phytoplankton light up the water.
St Croix is the largest of the US Virgin Islands and is less built-up in comparison to St Thomas and St John. St Croix is surrounded by stunning reefs and marine life and provides exceptional wall diving along the northern shore including the world renouned Salt River drop-off. Be sure to visit Tiny Buck Island, just 3km off the northern coast of St Croix, this stunning marine reserve offers some of the best diving in the US Virgin Islands.
During the summer months, the seas offer amazing visibility, calm conditions and local accommodation options are favourable to travelling divers.
