Dive Site Overview for El Salvador
El Salvador is the smallest country in Central America lying on the Pacific Coast on the Gulf of Fonseca with beautiful beaches, tropical weather and lush vegetation.
El Salvador is one very few places where you can dive crater lakes surrounded by volcanoes! Experience Coatepeque Lake (120m deep) or Lake Ilopango (230m deep). Ilopango is the most popular lake among divers and locals with rocky, edgy topography. You can see several freshwater fish, algae, crabs, sponges and in the depths, according to local legend, mermaids. Both day and night dives are popular here.
Coastal diving in El Salvador is popular around Los Cobanos Marine Park where there are excellent underwater rock formations, healthy reefs and several ship wrecks to explore.
The cater lakes are freshwater of about 26°C all year round. Diving is the sea is possible all year round, waters are calmest during dry season (October – May) and visibility is generally good.
