Dive Site Overview for Ireland

The Emerald Isle of Ireland is known for its friendly culture, shamrocks, the mysterious Giant's Causeway & of course, Guinness!

Diving opportunities in Ireland are abundant with diving being possible the entire way around the country.

Diving in Ireland can be fantastic, but conditions are not always ideal. Ireland's clear waters are a haven for fish with plenty of lobsters and crabs to be found. The kelp forests and richly populated waters make it a great location for photographers. Tides and currents mean local knowledge is often essential, so proper dive planning is strongly recommended.

Playful seals and marine birds are common, if you are lucky enough you may have the opportunity to see dolphins, porpoises, minke whales and basking sharks whilst diving.

Ireland has a large number of interesting and historical wrecks available to divers. Myths and tales surround most wrecks, so its worth reading up on a particular dive site before you go, however, many of the wrecks in Ireland have been broken up by the winter storms, so you may have to venture a little deeper in order to find those that are more intact.

The dive season starts in April and ends in October due to adverse weather and sea conditions. The temperatures in the water range from 7 degrees in winter warming up in early spring to a maximum of about 15 degrees centigrade in August and September.

On the Atlantic coast, visibility can range from anywhere between 5 to 25 metres, however the Irish Sea may result in reduced visibility.
