The United Kingdom is a lively and diverse destination offering various diving opportunities both inland and in coastal waters where you can find wrecks, reefs and great topography.
Diving opportunities in the UK (England & Wales) and range from inland dive sites such as quarries and lakes to the open ocean in the summer months. There is the possibility to dive on wrecks, reefs and walls as well as in caves and kelp forests.
Diving in the UK is heavily dependent on the weather and there are possibilities to dive on the west, south and east coasts. Some of the sea creatures you can see include giant (but friendly!) basking sharks, seals, cuttlefish, octopus, conger eels, lobsters, crabs, seahorses, bib, pollack, bass, wrasse, blennies and gobies.
Most UK based divers opt to travel to mainland Europe during the summer months to dive, but if you are prepared to search around, there are some hidden diving gems to be found offering a surprising amount of underwater life.
The visibility in the UK can range between 1 and 25 metres depending on the location and time of year you choose to dive. The water temperature also fluctuates a great deal, with winter water temperatures averaging 5 degrees and summer peaking at 16 degrees centigrade.
