Our Mission Statement: To protect and preserve coral reefs by establishing and implementing environmentally friendly guidelines to promote a sustainable diving tourism industry.

Green Fins

Green Fins provide research and information about reef conservation to local businesses in South East Asia to help promote a more sustainable diving industry.

The Green Fins project is initiated and coordinated by COBSEA's secretariat as part of the effort to increase public awareness and management practices that will benefit the conservation of coral reefs and reduce unsustainable tourism practices. This is done by dive operators agreeing to follow the Code of Conduct to the best of their ability.

There is an ever expanding network of dive operators in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand, who are involved the project, with one leading organization in each country managing Green Fins.  The project was first launched in the Philippines and Thailand in 2004 with Indonesia and Malaysia joining last year. The leading organizations are responsible for expanding the network in their respective countries and to produce educational and public awareness materials as well as certificates.

Green Fins activities currently focus on expanding the project to additional member countries in the East Asian Seas region and to strengthen the existing network.
